Britain's Bellamy gamble pays off

CARDIFF, Wales (AP) -- Craig Bellamy is certainly no David Beckham. For Britain's Olympic football team, perhaps that's a good thing.

Britain coach Stuart Pearce caused an uproar when he left Beckham off the team for the London Olympics, opting to go with fellow midfielder Bellamy as one of his three overage players instead - alongside Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs and defenderMicah Richards.

Olympic Swiss Soccer Player Michel Morganella Sent Packing After Idiotic Tweet

Peppered among the grand tales of glory from the Olympics are some awful life lessons for athletes who couldn't resist taking Twitter to racist depths.
Swiss football player Michel Morganella has been sent home after taking to Twitter to voice his disgust with losing to South Korea. Instead of losing with class, he lobbed an idiotic tweet that will now mark him with shame well through the Games.

Twitter: Olympics opening ceremony saw 9.66 million mentions

From retweeting Tim Berners-Lee to criticizing NBC's decision to delay its broadcast of the ceremony, users around the world took to Twitter to share their opinions on the Games.

Talk of the London 2012 Olympic Games was expected to take over Twitter, and its community of 140 million active users worldwide didn't disappoint.

On Friday, Twitter saw more tweets in a single day than it saw during the whole duration of the Beijing 2008 Olympics, according to a blog post by the microblogging service.

RVP wants £10m a year

According to Robin van Persie’s agent Kees Vos, Arsenal’s Captain Fantastic — who is better known as RVP by many of the Gunners’ faithful supporters — wants £195,000-a-week in wages, The Sununderstands.

Vos reportedly broke the news to Italian giants Juventus during a meeting with the club. RVP would be amongst the highest-paid footballers in the world should he get the contract he craves. Juventus were initially unwilling to pursue RVP due to his massive wage demand, but the Serie A champions have allegedly changed their minds.
The fact that the Dutchman has three of the world’s biggest clubs — Juventus, Manchester City and Manchester United — on the edge of their seats certainly helps his cause.

Manchester City makes £250 million bid for Arsenal's history

PREMIER League champions Manchester City have tabled an offer to buy up Arsenal’s entire roll-call of honours for an estimated £250 million, plus Adam Johnson.

If accepted, the offer would see City retrospectively crowned league double winners in 1970-71, 1997-98 and 2001-2002, first division champions three seasons running between 1933 and 1935 as well as last-gasp victors in 1989 when they went to Anfield and snatched the title from Liverpool.
